METRO VANCOUVER - A man was found suffering from several gunshot wounds on a walking path near Surrey Memorial Hospital late last night, police have confirmed.
The 22-year-old victim was taken to hospital in serious condition.
"He was found . . . face down in a pathway," said RCMP spokesman, Cpl. Drew Grainger. The man had been shot several times in the torso.
Police found the victim just before midnight in the area of 92nd Avenue and 138th Street, in a park-like space situated in a residential area.
Police had received several 911 calls reporting gunshots in the area.
The victim cooperated with police, providing the first name of his attacker as well as a description of a vehicle that was involved, Grainger said.
Police found the vehicle a short distance away at 77th Avenue and 144th Street, but it was empty, Grainger said.
They seized the vehicle, which appears to have been stolen, he added.
"We don't have a full name or a date of birth for this person of interest," Grainger said, noting "[the investigation] is still very active and we're trying to track this guy down."
Grainger said the shooting was certainly targeted but doesn't appear to be gang-related at this point.
