#1 Hankook Optimo H727
This may be the most impressive tire we have seen in the last 10 years.  In Consumer Reports November 2009 all season tire test, the Hankook H727 was rated second out of twenty five tested tires.   What is most impressive is the build quality of this tire.  In our opinion, this is one of the few tires we have seen as round and well balanced as the #1 rated Michelin.  But here is what we really care about – it beat every tire in the test for snow and ice performance.  No, it is not as good as Nokian WRG2 in the winter, but it is measurably better than EVERY OTHER all season tire for winter driving.  This tire really does it all!  Smooth, quiet, long wearing – good winter traction and very reasonably priced.

#2 Nokian WRG2
There is a reason this tire is our best selling tire--this is the safest all season tire for any vehicle--period. Winter our seemingly longest and most demanding season and for tires is when the WRG2 shines the brightest. The WRG2 offers excellent control and handling on all driving surfaces, wet, dry, snow-covered and clear The G2’s roots are traced back to a high performance winter tire designed for the high speed roads of Europe. After several revisions this tire made it to the USA as a four season tire. Don’t be fooled by its all season moniker, the WR G2's tread compound and design help it outperform all but a few of the world’s best snow tires.

#3 Michelin Primacy MXV4
This is the #1 rated performance all season tire by Consumers Report. (see results) It tops all other tires in almost every category, especially price.  We love Michelin tires; we just wish they were not so darn expensive.  The MXV4 is an exceptionally smooth, quiet and long wearing tire with the only weak point being winter performance.  The solid shoulder on this tire makes them particularly good on large and heavy cars such as Cadillac, Mercedes, Lexus and BMW.

#4 Nokian eNTYRE
The eNTYRE was designed specifically to outperform tires from Michelin, Goodyear and Bridgestone. Nokian’s development team created an All-Season tire that has excellent wet grip, a smooth and quiet ride, long tread life, great handling, reduced rolling resistance and good winter grip. The Nokian eNTYRE has all the newest safety and green technologies combined in one tire making it the “entire” package for All-Season customers.

#5 Yokohama Avid Touring-S
In the large world of mid priced tires this one stands out for Yokohama’s unending commitment to quality.  Most tires in this price range are “store brand” and are all about price – not quality.  This tire is smooth and quiet.  The winter performance is average at best.  If this is for a vehicle that sees a lot of winter use, spend the extra $$ to move up to the Hankook Optimo 727.

#6 Cooper Starfire 340
It is hard for us to get excited about economy tires.  This may not be the most inexpensive tire out there, but it is really close.  For $3-5 more than the ultra cheap tires you can move up to the Starfire which will outperform all of the other tires in the “economy class” and it is built in the US of A!!

#7 Firestone Precision Touring
It has been a long time since we got jazzed about a Firestone car tire (probably 25 or more years).  The new Firestone Precision appears like it may be just the tire we have been looking for.  It seems to be an above average performer and below average in price.  Stay tuned as we test the tires and gain more “real world” experience we can share with you.  Initial testing and feedback have been very promising.

#8 Yokohama Avid ENVigor
Yokohama Avid Tires have landed at the top or near the top of every tire test as long as we can remember and are hands down the best value in H&V speed rated tires.  Although this tire will  perform better in winter conditions than most other Performance All Season tires, we think that it is best used as a summer tire.  If you need winter performance and safety, the only H&V speed rated tire to use is the Nokian WRG2.

#9 Toyo Extensa and Toyo Versado
These tires fill a very small niche for us.  We prefer the Hankook Optimo H727 because of its longer wear and better winter performance. But there are sizes and speed ratings that are only available in the Toyo Extensa and Versado lines.  Toyo makes great tires but usually there are better choices for your money

Our Pans:

Kelly Navigator Gold
This hopelessly average tire has been passed by almost every other midrange tire. There are just so many other better choices in midrange tires we find little reason to recommend this one.

Cooper CS4
The CS4 is Cooper’s latest offering in an 80,000 mile tire (60,000 mile on H and V rated tires).  Continuing their consistent mediocrity, the CS4 reflects Cooper’s ability to provide average performance at an above average price. Slim chance these tires will see 80,000 miles or even 60,000. Move along, nothing to see here… there are way better choices for your $$$.

Goodyear Triple Tred
Goodyear’s Assurance TripleTred (car version) and Goodyear Fortera TripleTred (Truck and SUV version) are decent all season tires that perform well in most weather conditions.  We have one major complaint about this tire, they often get very noisy when the tires are only half worn out. While not the best tire for any single road condition, the Goodyear TripleTred does offer a good compromise for most situations—except price.  You can expect fair performance in most driving conditions, but at the usual premium price for the Goodyear name.
