South Okanagan Wine & Cuisine

Savour the succulent flavours of our famous food and wine pairings

The Okanagan valley offers a tantalizing experience for anyone who loves fabulous wine accompanied by fine cuisine. This is a perfect opportunity to taste the global culinary infusion of locally grown products complimented with renowned Okanagan wines. On Day 2, leave the driving to someone else as you visit, snack, sip and dine at five of the best wineries.

Day 1 – Vancouver to Kelowna (4 hours)Depart Vancouver at 8 am via Coquihalla Highway (approx 4.5 hours)
Take Highway 97 south to Peachland

First stop in the Okanagan is for lunch at the Bonfire Grill located in the Cove Lakeside Resort in West Kelowna. The menu at the Bonfire exhibits flavors and cooking styles of the Southwest combined with west coast ingredients. Out of this comes “Cuisine of the Sun” that is inspired by the flavors and cooking styles from the Sonoran, Mojave and Chihuahuan Desert regions. Pair these temptations with a glass of Okanagan wine and you have the makings of a terrific first lunch!

Your second stop on this afternoon is not far away to a tasting and tour at Greata Ranch Vineyards & Winery. One of the most beautiful locations to view the sparkling waters of Okanagan Lake is the veranda at Greata Ranch. Your experience wouldn’t be complete without a refreshing glass of their award winning wine.

A further 15 minutes south, you’ll arrive in Summerland for your overnight stay.
Suggested Accommodation:
Summerland Waterfront Resort

Tonight, we suggest a visit lakeside to Local Lounge & Grill. This stylish waterfront lounge and restaurant next to the Summerland Waterfront Resort features fresh regional flare in a picturesque setting. Local provides a contemporary, elegantly casual atmosphere. Visit the grill and experience the ultimate in comfortable, refined dining. For those wishing to bring a meal back to your hotel room or you can dine on site, consider Victoria Road Deli and Bistro in Summerland featuring Mediterranean flavours that is open until late in the afternoon.

Day 2 Summerland to Osoyoos to Summerland with Great Estates
This morning begins with a journey to visit five of the most exceptional wineries in the Okanagan Valley. You will be part of the Great Estates of the Okanagan Wine Tour, a fully-guided trip that will take you through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Okanagan; a route off the beaten path and not marked on standard wine tour maps. Enjoy VIP tours and tastings starting at the award-winning Sumac Ridge Estate Winery, British Columbia’s premier estate winery; the culturally diverse Nk’Mip Cellars, North America’s first aboriginal owned and operated winery; the unique Inniskillin Okanagan winery and world-renowned for it’s award-winning icewine; the new tasting gallery at Jackson-Triggs Okanagan Winery where the promise of great wine moments await you and the quirky See Ya Later Ranch Winery where history meets tradition.

In the afternoon, you will enjoy a culturally inspired lunch on the Terrace at Nk’Mip Cellars overlooking Osoyoos Lake and Canada’s only pocket desert. Day 3 Penticton to Vancouver (4 hours)
On your last day before you leave Penticton, you may want to visit the B.C. Wine Information Centre. The wine store and gift shop offers VQA wine samples and educational seminars. The Centre also has a selection of wines from producers throughout the Okanagan valley. It’s a rare chance to find all your favourite BC wines in one location.

Depart Penticton on Highway 3A to Keremeos and then east 8 kilometers through Cawston on Highway 3 to your first stop today to the shores of the Similkameen River and the quaint Forbidden Fruit Organic Winery. The farm has grown organic fruit for years and supplies several large western Canadian stores with produce. This may be your first opportunity to taste fruit wines. Forbidden Fruit has a number of them including several white wines that are similar in taste to grape wines. Make sure you take crackers to go with the awesome jellies they make.

A Stop at Harker’s Organic Farm and Rustic Roots Winery is also suggested. Tour the fields and orchard and pick up some freshly picked fruit and vegetables. Harker’s supplies produce to some of the most respected restaurants and organic grocers in BC. Try some of their fruit wines as well!

An early lunch stop back to Cawston takes you to Crowsnest Vineyards. This winery includes a new building that features a restaurant and overnight suite accommodation. Take in the sights on their vineyard side patio and enjoy a German varietal wine and delicious cuisine paired to perfection!

After lunch you will enjoy a leisurely trip back to Vancouver on Highway 3. This Highway takes you through the village of Keremeos (don’t forget to stop at one of the many fruit stand in Keremeos) and on to Princeton where you will head West through Hope and onward to Vancouver.
