Microsoft introduced the Cloud OS Network today. It is a worldwide consortium of more than 25 cloud service providers delivering services built on Microsoft’s cloud platform. Microsoft’s cloud platform includes the Windows Server with Hyper-V, System Center and the Windows Azure Pack. Service providers in the Cloud OS Network offer cloud-based infrastructure and application solutions validated by Microsoft.
The operating system giant hopes that the Cloud OS Network will give customers a greater choice in deploying hybrid solutions on its cloud platform. They can do so in their data centres, in Windows Azure or through a network of service providers. This greater freedom of options should give a high degree of technical consistency across environments and flexibility. Microsoft’s aim is to enable its customers to increase efficiency, improve productivity and lower operational costs.
Cloud service providers will also benefit from this announcement. By joining the Cloud OS Network, they can quickly develop new services to attract customers and boost their revenue. The Microsoft Cloud Platform gives them access to the capabilities and best practices from Windows Azure.
One of the Cloud OS Network partners in Canada is iWeb, an infrastructure-as-a-service provider. It offers a hosted, Microsoft private cloud solution. Christian Primeau, president and COO, iWeb, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. “iWeb provides a place for Canadian companies that are looking for a made-in-Canada, hosted data solution, offering all the benefits of a private cloud coupled with the peace-of-mind and economies provided by enterprise class data centers, network and professional services. Our partnership with Microsoft allows us to bring the best value and the most flexibility to our Canadian clients,” he said. iWeb and Microsoft continue to partner on offerings that leverage the tremendous growth in apps, devices, and data that is driven by the rise of cloud computing. As these technologies play an ever increasing role in business, iWeb and Microsoft are working together to drive more efficiency and value through Microsoft’s Cloud OS vision. iWeb is proud to be part of Microsoft’s Cloud OS Network.”
