Cisco and the Province of Ontario have signed a 10-year agreement that has the chance to create up to 1,700 technology-focused jobs in the province. The agreement, which will see a potential total investment of up to $4 billion will focus on R&D investment in the first six years.
Those 1,700 jobs should boost Cisco’s total employee footprint in Ontario up to 5,000 by 2024. The Province of Ontario will be providing up to $220 million in support of the project.
At least $2.2 billion of the initiative will go to new employee salaries.
Recently, Cisco has invested in other initiatives around the province including the being the technology infrastructure sponsor of the Pan Am Games, investing in Canadian university chairs, and promoting intelligent communities focused on improving technology infrastructure.
Premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne visited the Cisco headquarters in Toronto to make the announcement with Cisco Canada president Nitin Kawale.
“Our plan to create jobs and grow the economy is focused on smart, forward-looking investments that build on Ontario’s strengths” Wynne said in a statement. “Today’s announcement is about supporting our talented technology workers. Together, we’re going to show the world what Ontario can do.”
