1 - Note, although California King is available in Canada, it represents a tiny fraction of king beds sold here.
Nearly all mattress sizes are rounded up. For example a Twin bed is typically real-world dimensions of 38 x 74" or a Double is 53 x 74". Queen and King are almost always 79 inches long. Most mattresses today and still at least partially hand built, which will always lead to variances.

2 - 36 x 72" was a common size in the middle part of the 20th century. It is no longer a standard size.
3 - California Queen was used primarily as a replacement for wood-framed water beds and is nearly obsolete.



RV Queen Size
The vast majority of queen size mattresses found in recreational vehicles are actually 5 inches shorter than a standard queen. From March until August, The Mattress & Sleep Company regularly stocks this size in our Söva Soothing Rest Europillow top model.
Those seeking a luxury mattress upgrade for their motor coach may wish to consider Green Sleep. This Belgian mattress maker hand crafts their beds to exacting qualities for discerning tastes. Green Sleep will custom make nearly all of their models to almost any rectangular dimensions required.



Custom Mattresses
We're able to source custom mattresses in nearly any rectangular dimensions (no angles). These mattresses are only available finished (with fabric). We are unable to provide replacement foam for existing items such as seat cushions.
For an inexpensive mattress made to custom dimensions the best option is custom-cut polyurethane foam. This can be ordered in 4", 5", 6" and 8" and the dimensions can be nearly anything up to 76" wide or 80" long. Typical price range for these mattresses is $150-350 depending on dimensions.
Those seeking a high quality mattress will look no further than Green Sleep. Any of the Green Sleep models may be made to nearly any rectangular dimensions up to 76" wide or 84" long. These mattresses are either made entirely of natural rubber or hand-built pocketed springs with natural rubber cushioning. Price range for custom sized Green Sleep mattresses is $1,850 to $5,200 depending on the model and dimensions required.

A Note on King Size
Standard kings will sometimes be referred to as Eastern King. One instance of this will be with Wesley Allen iron beds. It is important to know which type of king you prefer. Although the extra length of a California King is nice, it may be harder to find linens and bed frames that work with this size.
The Mattress & Sleep Company offers many Natura, St. Geneve and Wesley Allen products which are available in both varieties of king size.
Note that in terms of area, an Eastern King is the largest size available with a total area of 6,080 square inches. A California King has a total area of 6,048 square inches.



About Discrepancies
It is not uncommon for a particular mattress to not match up exactly to a size listed above. As many aspects of building a mattress are still done by hand, there will always be variations in sizing from one mattress to the next.
Often times, mattresses may measure as much as one or two inches shorter or narrower than the "official" dimensions. This is considered normal.
